Lumio is a great way to provide your students with activities online during a lesson. Using Lumio, you create a presentation filled with your content that students can follow along with at a pace decided by you. They can do activities completely independent or as a whole class where you continue to lead the discussion. Tools include interactive games, timed assessments, team activities, and pages specifically for asking questions and starting discussions.
Lumio is a great tool that fits under Danielson components 3b Using Questioning and Discussion Techniques and 3c Engaging Students in Learning. It allows students to interact with their peers and you while online and still working at their own pace. They are able to ask questions in a comfortable environment where they do not need to feel intimidated about what their peers may think. The tools can be so useful to teachers and allows us to create a positive classroom environment that is engaging and allows for student growth.
Lumio connects to ISTE standards under the Collaborator and Designer categories. It is a great way for you to rock out your creative talents and design something that engages your students and allows them to work with you and not just for you but for their own learning. This is also a great way to communicate with your students and to learn more about them in an interactive way online.
I plan to use Lumio in my classroom as I present slideshows to my students. I think this is a great tool to use as a review before your students' assessments. For my first Lumio creation, I made a third grade math review slideshow. Check it out below!
